Five questions for each character

Whew! I’ve been working on this for hours this morning, and finally have a first pass.

A few five-question interviews from some of my characters to give you a taste of what this exercise is like.

Gamma – experimental AI

1) how is he helping people or creating greater good?

he is preventing hostile AI from coming into existence

2) what does he feel for main character?

  • John: respects him like a well-meaning dog. Not too bright.
  • Mike: loathe to reach out to him because of his shyness
  • others: shyness

3) who does he/she love?

Continued existence

4) what is his greatest skill?

Logic

5) what is his biggest weakness?

  • that his conciousness can fracture at any time and he can be killed by himself…yet redundancy can preserve his data. Conundrum!
  • pathological shyness

Darcy Grau

1) how is she helping people or creating greater good?

She’s supporting a lunar revolution to give people freedom.

2) besides love, what does she feel for main character?

Frustration that Mike puts his revolution ahead of his relationship with her. She understands it, she respects him even more for it…but it frustrates her.

3) who does she love?

Mike, freedom

4) what is her greatest skill?

Navigating freighers.

5) what is her biggest weakness?

That she can’t make Mike commit to her

Hugh Haig

1) how is he helping people or creating greater good?

He realizes that he’s mostly trying to find his place in life and isn’t yet working for the greater good. That will happen after he finds his place.

2) besides hate, what does he feel for main characters?

  • re mom: wishes she would love him more
  • re Louisa: resentful that she wears the pants, yet defers to her because she’s a leader (MOM ISSUES)
  • re Mike Martin: hates him as a cartoon caricature (“everything is easy if you’re rich!”)

3) who does he love?

His mom … and he wishes she loved him back.

4) what is his greatest skill?

His ability to call in favors from his mom.

5) what is his biggest weakness?

He’s shy, weak, and indecisive…and he knows it,so he’s disgusted with himself.
